One time in the early winter, I went to the basement to start the laundry chores again. As soon as I opened up the kitchen to go down, I felt an icy cold blast of air go right past me. Thinking that the weather is just turning colder out, I continued on down the steps only to find that my basement window was wide opened. Why would the window be wide open when it is so cold out? I proceeded to go about my business of sorting the clothes to do laundry, and then discovered that the plastic tubs I stored my daughter's old toys in were all tossed around. That pile of plastic containers sat there since the summer when the basement was remodeled. What made it fall after months?

Thinking that my son may have opened it, I waited for him to come home from school and then asked him why did he open the basement window since it is winter out now and I'm not paying furnace bills to heat up outside! He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Mother, why would I open the window downstairs when it has been shut for years?" I agreed and said I just don't know how or why it was opened as many times we go downstairs it's always locked in plain view. Since the window locks from the inside, there is no way that anyone from the outside could have even tampered with that.

To this day I wonder what made that window open up?
